Who hasn't thought about building a Jacobs's ladder? But high voltage is dangerous... So how about a little high voltage? :-) Luckily, there is this great instructable Quickly buying the necessary parts and assembling them yields this super safe workbench setup

Interestingly, the first power supply out my junk box of shame was not beefy enough. This little guy easily draws 2-3 Amps at 5V input. Choosing a higher base resistor (around 470k) shifts the audible transformer noise to a less annoying frequency. Fiddling around with the electrodes and occasionally sanding them makes for fast and fun results. The Gabriel electrode is of great use and interesting as a concept by itself. In a next clean version, the resistors will be hidden and only a copper wire similar to the other two should be visible.
